IHS Dataquest Assignment
Every school in California has what is class an API#. API stands for Academic Performance Index. It's a simple number used to see how your school is doing academically.
Your assignment will be to create a chart of the last 6 years of Inderkum's API and the breakdown of API for each subgroup.
API is not a measure of SMARTNESS. It is only a statistic of test results. PLEASE, be kind and thoughtfully of others while you are complete this assignment
Directions:
- READ ALL THE DIRECTIONS!
- Open a blank Excel and save as "Last FirstName Inderkum API"
- In A1, type the title "Inkerkum API / 2006-2013"
- Row 2 will be your HEADINGS - In A2 type "Group", in b2 type "2006", in C2 type "2007" and fill the pattern all the way out to 2013 (to I)
- Change all the cells with data in Row 2 to a black background with white text
- Enter the following list of groups. Start in A3:
- Resize Column A
- Go to http://data1.cde.ca.gov/dataquest/
- Level = School
- Subject = Academic Performance Index (API)
- Click Submit.
- Type in Inderkum in the next window and press SUBMIT
- You want the "2013 Growth API Report" - Click Submit
- The column titled "2013
Growth" contains the API#
- (for example, our 2012 API was 734)
- Notice that each API is broken up by subgroup
- Enter the API for each of the 12 groups. Be sure to put this in the 2013 column.
- Return to dataquest and press the back arrow. Select the "2011 Growth API Report" and repeat the process until you have ALL the 2006-2013 API data completed.
- In the Excel file, select your data and change:
- Add a border
- Change the font
- Merge the Row 1 title out to H
- Make it look nice
- Rename "Sheet1" to "Inderkum API"
- Rename "Sheet2" to "Analysis"
- Delete "Sheet3"
- On the Analysis worksheet, type 3 things you notice about our API (really look at it)
- When finished, save the file and turn it into the inbox for grading.
