Mail Merge Assignment

This assignment has two different parts. You will be required to create the CORRECT output so read the direction carefully. If you have not read the entire C9 Mail Merge Lesson, STOP, read it all before you start this assignment.

Resources - save both in your H: drive:

Part 1 - The letter

You are working for a business that wants to send out an letter to its customers. The letter is written (from the resources), all you need to do is insert the proper information blocks and merge. You will be graded on the final merge document.

Directions:

  1. Double Space the letter as it currently exists
  2. At the top of the letter, insert the date (Insert>Text Group>Date&Time) int he 3rd available format
  3. Leaving two blank lines below the date, Insert the words TO:
  4. Start your mail merge wizard (read the lesson for directions)
  5. Step 1 is a letter and step 2 is the current document
  6. Connect the data source (step3)
  7. Sort the data in ascending order by last name
  8. One line under TO: (no skipped lines) insert an address block - format is Mr. Joshua Randall Jr.
  9. Right above "As you might know ..." insert a greeting line - Format is "Dear Mr. Randall,"
  10. Complete the merge (Step 5) and then select "Edit individual letters" then ALL (step 6)
  11. If done correctly, you should have 8 pages on the file. If not done correctly, delete it all and start again.
  12. Save the file as "Last First Name Period Mail Merge"

Part 2 - The Labels

If you are going to print those 8 letters and mail them, you will need envelope and address labels on them. Lets make the address labels

Directions:

  1. Open a blank Word file
  2. Start the Mail Merge Wizard
  3. Select Labels
  4. Change your Label Options to "Avery US Letter - 5660"
  5. Connect the data source
  6. Sort the data in ascending order by last name
  7. Insert an address block - format is Mr. Joshua Randell Jr.
  8. Press the Update all Labels button
  9. Complete the merge and then select "Edit individual letters" then ALL
  10. If done correctly, you should have 8 labels on a single page. If not done correctly, delete it all and start again.
  11. Save the file as "Last First Name Period Merge Labels"
