Mom
Background and Description
My Moms name is Sixta Garcia and she was born on Feburary 18th, 1980, in Bakersfield, California. She is 5'4, has dark curly hair, and has light brown skin. She has an athletic build and is strong.
My mom is smart, kind, resilliant, and thoughtful. She is capable of anything and has done many great things.
My Mom had me when she was 28, and as she describes it, I was the blessed surprise in my parents life. Ever since I can remember, my mom has been my built in best friend. I share everything with her, and my mom has the ability to speak life and wisdom into my life when I need it, and she makes me laugh really hard in many moments.
Her STORY
My mom grew up in Bakersfield, she was born and raised there with the occasional trips back and forth between Mexico and California to visit immediate and extended family. My Mom grew up with 12 siblings, in which she has close relationships with. My mom is the 6th child born out of all 12 kids. My mom described her childhood to have not been on the easy side. Growing up with parents that immigrated from another country to a new country came with its challenges, but my mom and family blossomed from these challenges. Through this aspect, my mother has incorporated the importance of being family orientated, and that family is an important foundation in life.
Since the age of 15, my mom had been working to help provide for her siblings and to grow an independence for herself. After marrying my dad at 19, she went to school for Nursing. She is currently a Nurse Practitioner and is a hard worker. My mom is currently the mother of me, my sister Leilani, and my brother Caleb. I am the youngest born to her.
Lessons, Takeaways, and Connection
There are many lessons and Takeawys I can take from my mom's history and story of who she is, and many accomplishments I have seen.
An example of resilliance that I learned from my mom would be when she went to college as a young married woman, not only working to help provide for a household, but also going through pregnancies during the process of her education. By the time my mother earned her masters degree, she already had all three children whom all were in the process of being raised. It takes resilliance, focus, and determination to finish schooling with priorities such as working, providing, and raising a family.
Her determination to pursue an education created a pathway for my siblings and I to also have the opportunity to pursue a higher education and make the most from our hardwork.
An example of kindness that I learned from my mother would be grace in the midst of a hard place. My mom has been through various trials and background history, but despite such she chooses to show grace, patience, and love. It is inspiring every day to me.
Quotes and Wisdom
- "Rejection is Redirection"
- My mom would say this all the time, and she still does. To us as a family, it means that when we face rejection in various circumstances, it is just redirection to learn important values and morals and it is redirection to something better for ourselves. It is a quote of humility.
- "Mind Over Matter"
- My mom says this all the time, especially during my wrestling season for highschool. It is good encouragement and something I always need to hear in the hard, dry parts of wrestling. Sometimes, it can be a little annoying, but so is everything you need to hear when you don't want to hear it. I am very grateful for my mom's support, I will always need it.
